Welcome to another #DapperMonday! This week the focus is on winter essentials; tweed jackets, wool ties and whiskey. We played around in our new lab this weekend and came up with the perfect concoction for every gent - look dapper and drink well. Key detail number one for this fine look is favoring our go-to colors of the winter, brown and green. Stock your wardrobe with a heavy dose of brown and green this time of year gents. If you’re not doing so, you’re missing out. Heavily. However, don't fret, now that Winter is thankfully coming to an end you can go to places like J.Crew and the GAP to cash in on those 30% off sales on their winter selections. Lastly gents, I’ll say it once and I will say it again. Two words. Pharrell Hat. When in doubt, pull it out! The Pharrell Hat can do nothing but enhance your outfit. To reiterate, if you’re going to pull the trigger on this headgear, you have to go with quality, water resistant hats that will last over a longer period of time with minimal wear and tear. These type of hats are not available at H&M, Zara, etc. yet so you will have to go to real hat stores like JJ Hat, FlameKeepers or World Hats.

Share with me your favorite part of this look and/or your favorite type of whiskey below.

P.S. Here is a link for figuring out your favorite whiskey!

Happy #DapperMonday gents. This week I curated ties.com’s “Smart Style” box with the patented WS paper flare. The Smart Style box consists of 4 items; a tie, tie bar, pocket square and socks to mix and match with your current wardrobe. Or, for the go big or go home types like myself, you can wear them all at once as I did in the pictures above. Once again, I played around with textures and patterns. First, note the grey wool sportcoat with the brown suede elbow patches designed to accentuate the complementary brown tie. Complementary brown tie or not, elbow patches are always a #holygrail type addition to any outfit. To top of the look, I went with the two toned striped socks with a contrast heel.

To mimic this look and get the best bang for your buck, check out ties.com and search “wallstreetpaper”. Even if the Smart Style box is not for you (highly doubtful, I know), be sure to check out the rest of the dope menswear featured on ties.com. Let me know your favorite item of the “Smart Style” box and any of your #holygrail additions to an outfit in the comments section!

In honor of the new movie, Fifty Shades of Grey, I thought to shed some light on styling multiple shades of the same color with simple layering. Lets start from the surface with the quilted sportcoat, it is not on the radar of many fashion enthusiasts yet but I think the texture gives the sportcoat a classic and sleek winter coat vibe and the patch chest pocket helps accentuate the pocket square. In my opinion, the go to piece of the winter this year has been the zip up vest. Every gent needs to have one in his arsenal. It essentially lets you wear lighter more fashion forward outerwear during colder temperatures and adds more layer options that you cannot really get with bulky winter outerwear. Now to my bread and butter, Denim on Denim – not too much, not too little, but just right! This has been a favorite go to of mine lately, when doing denim on denim I like to always have the pants darker than the shirt. It’s just easier on the eyes for me. Other key items to note would be the wristwear and footwear. These two areas can make or break an outfit. I usually prefer brown shoes with denim, which give the outfit a pop. Wristwear in my opinion should always clash with the outfit colors to create a little excitement and flare. Remember gents, every article of clothing you have on should be a conversation piece and have a story behind it. If it does not then you should leave it in the closet.

Special thanks to Arnold Steiner who laced me with a courteous care package, more outfits to come with his elegant pocket squares.

One of my favorite times of the year, when love is in the air and all of my close friends are ripping and running around to find their girlfriends’ the best, most creative, genuine, etc…. gift ever!! To no avail, all my friends eventually burn out and settle for flowers or the most original Valentines gift of all time…. Yes you guessed it, the Teddy Bear!! Well gents, look no more, you can get your lady something new, trendy and show you know a few things about women’s fashion by getting her a tulle skirt from Space 46 Boutique. You will exceed her expectations and also make up for getting her chocolate and flowers for the third year in a row last year. I know, I know, you are worried about the color right? Well you can never go wrong with black but if you feel confident enough, you can go with something similar to dusty blush just like @newyorkcitystylist. Guys we have the easy job, just put on your best suit with a white dress shirt and solid tie. Let me know what you end up getting your significant other for Valentines below.

With the temperatures fluctuating so much lately (especially in NYC) you have to be able to adjust to the weather and still look the part. In my recent collaboration with Spectre on their Winter Look Book we highlighted the Wool Body Warmer Vest, which is not as heavy as an overcoat but will stay true to its namesake and keep you warm. At the same time it will add a ton of flavor to your outfit and set you apart from the everyday young professional wearing a navy suit to the office. I thoroughly enjoyed the way all the patterns and fabrics came together to create one sound accord. Gents, please remember during the winter it is the perfect time to test the limits of layers, textures, patterns, etc. Lets also not forget my suggestion from my first post about choosing a solid color tie when wearing a heavy patterned shirt. The same logic applies for this plaid vest. The chunky wool tie compliments the subtle hint of brown in the vest and gives the outfit a very rustic look. If you want to dig deeper on the subject of pattern mixing, Fashion Beans has a great article I came across a while a go that goes into more detail. Lastly, if you live in NYC please check out Spectre in person at The Chelsea Market Arts and Fleas at The Chelsea Market when you get a chance and tell Jeff I sent you.
